Cookie Policy

Effective from 18 September 2026

One optional analytics tool, one record of your choice, and nothing else.

Your choice

Analytics is off until you turn it on. Change your mind here whenever you like; the buttons below work immediately, without an account or an email.

Checking your browser…

Turning analytics off stops collection straight away and deletes the cookies listed below. Your choice is kept in this browser for 12 months; clearing site data resets it.

Why we ask

Jersey has no separate cookie law: unlike the UK and the EU, there is no rule requiring consent before a website stores something in your browser. The Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 still applies, because analytics cookies process personal data, and it would allow us to run Google Analytics on the basis of our legitimate interests without asking you. We ask anyway. Many of our visitors are in places where consent is required, it is what people expect, and it costs us nothing to let you decide.

We also do it properly: the Google Analytics script is not fetched from Google at all until you accept, so nothing in the analytics table exists in your browser before then. Turning analytics off stops collection and deletes those items.

What we set

Cookies are small text records a website stores in your browser; local storage and browser databases are newer forms of the same thing. This is everything this site uses.

Strictly necessary

Set without asking, because the site cannot remember your cookie choice without it. It identifies nobody.

Analytics

Set by Google Analytics, and only after you accept. These identify your browser to Google so that repeat visits can be counted as one visitor.

What Google Analytics sees

With analytics on, Google receives the pages you view, the time, your approximate location, your device and browser type, and where you came from, all linked to the random identifier in the _ga cookie. It does not receive your name or anything you type into a form, and Google Analytics does not store your IP address. We see the results only as aggregate reports. Google describes its own handling of this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. How the data is transferred and protected is covered in our privacy policy.

Browser controls

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. Blocking the consent record means we will ask you again on your next visit, and the site works fully either way. If you clear this site's data, your choice is reset.

Changes

If we ever add a cookie, the table above changes and every visitor is asked to choose again. Your current choice lasts 12 months, after which we ask once more, on the principle that consent from years ago is not really consent.
